RE: Games and Stuff - December 2025 Part 2
This is a tiny serverless web page for viewing and entering blog comments without Javascript. It's on a separate page on a different domain due to the fickle nature of technology and the static nature of my blog. Basically, it allows dynamic page generation.

bhagpuss 2026-01-01T09:16:53Z Your Ashes of Creation experience is very similar to mine. I think if it was my first or second mmorpg I'd be pretty excited about it but at this stage it's just exactly what you'd expect and I already have plenty of games I like better that do the same thing. As for the talent trees, again I agree but obviously other people think exactly the opposite. It's the actual gameplay for probably most players. Without it they wouldn't be interested in the games at all. Speaking of which, I sometimes find it hard to see why you play video games or watch media. You seem to enjoy maybe 5% of what you try and that's usually the same 5% you already knew. The things you do really like, like Taskmaster for example, which appear to me to have literally no purpose beyond passing the time when for some reason it's not possible to be doing something - anything - more meaningful, seem to me to be the exemplar of what you say is missing in the things you don't like. I do agree that after a few decades it's very unusual to run into anything that feels new but the other side of that coin is that the people making all this stuff now have a much better idea how to do it well, so the newer versions are sometimes superior to the old ones.(Although not always, as AoC demonstrates...) Glad to hear your chemo is going as well as can be expected. Good luck with the rest of the course and the outcome beyond.
UltrViolet 2026-01-01T22:21:42Z One of the unfortunate truths of blogging is that it's usually funnier to criticize things than to praise them, so I tend to only write down criticisms, even when I actually like the thing I'm writing about. Also sometimes I sit down to write and there's nothing to talk about except that game I returned after 30 minutes.
